Alexander Great Bust

Do you consider Eric Lindros a bust for not lving up to Lofty Expectations?

After dominating the OHL Lindros was toted as the next Gretzky coming out.

Look at his accomplishments:
All Rookie Team 1993
Hart 1995
6 time All Star

He had 372G and 865pts and was constantly considered amoung the best in the league. He was always a physical superstar and a great Penalty killer for the Flyers. Had injuries not cut his career short he certainly would've scored 500G. However he was never the second Gretzky and his career was marked by injury, critisism of team doctors and his decesion to act as a "brat" by refusing to play for Quebec. Well his attitue was a major turnoff for fans Lindros was succsessful perhaps a future HOFer. His career was good especially in comparrison to disapointments like Patrick Stefan and Alexander Daigle. But is he a bust for not living up to the expectations?
I'm not saying Lindros was the next Gretzky. People expected him to be when he entered the NHL

If he hadn't entered the league amidst hype and controversy, he would have been regarded as a nice hockey player with a respectable career.

However, being handed the torch as the "Next One" before even being drafted, his career results were at best disappointing.

By the way, I don't give much credence to those "what if?" scenarios. Afterall, if I was bigger, stronger and faster, I'd be playing professionally, too. LOL

Listen, injuries are part of the game and every player has to deal with it. Mike Bossy's run was cut short by injuries but, he managed 573 goals, 50 in 50 and 4 Cups in a 10 year career.

EDIT: heavy soviet, Lindros refused to play for the Junior team that drafted him and he also refused to play for the NHL team that drafted him. He and his parents established him as a prima donna right along with the pundits who attached Gretzky comparisons to him.

Furthermore, the trade he forced only served to place additional weight on his worth. Think of what was surrendered by Philly to secure the Lindros rights. They never won a cup. Colorado (Qeubec) won two with the assets coming from the trade.
