Want to get an Egyptian Mau, but bf has had bad experiences with cats?

I love cats and have never been able to have one because my brother is highly allergic. I recently moved away from home and in with my boyfriend and want an Egyptian Mau but a. they are hard to find and b. my bf pretty much hates cats because he's had bad experiences with cats scratching him. How do I help him get over it and where can I find one (i live in wv)? Oh ya, and how well do you think it will get along with my chihuahua? (she's very mild-natured and loves all animals and humans)

To find a breeder near you, do an Internet search on "Egyptian Mau" and you should pull up websites for breeders. Also check out www.cfainc.org because that site often has links to breeders. This site also has breed profiles that tell you what this breed is like -- how they act, how hard they are to take care of, etc. Make sure the cat you get is well socialized because that will help it get along with your bf and the dog. The breeder may have suggestions on how to ease the transition for the cat and dog. If you can't find an Egyptian Mau, browse the CFA website to see if anything else catches your eye. Just be sure to check the breed characteristics first.

My husband just HAD to have a Blue Somali. A gorgeous cat, but very active and very needy. The cat wants to be petted ALL the time. When we were gone she emptied some of the upper cupboards just because she could.She was very proud of herself. I just didn't have the time to spend every waking moment petting the cat or allowing the cat to walk all over me, so we found her a new home with a larger family that could deal with her energy better than I could.
