What is the best way to remove paint from metal?

I just bought an old toleware floor lamp at a yard sale, but it looks like their kid got to it. It has been painted all over. It looks like it is a latex paint, if that matters, since I can peel parts of it away. However, in some spots the paint is so thin that it won't peel. Anyway- I already know I will not be able to save the original paint on the lamp, so I figure I will just remove all of it and re-paint it. Could anyone please tell me the best way to remove the paint? THANK YOU!

I'd use a 3M product called a clean and strip disc. it's what I have used in the past with complete success.
