How big of an effect would lower gas & oil prices to the economy?
Would the Dow Jones and Financial system be in as much of a slumber? Do you think if gas and oil barrel prices went to exactly to what they were before the crisis had begun, do you think we would be able to pull out of the financial crisis?
Reason I ask.. all I ever hear anymore is how people can't do anything because of gas prices.
I think it'd be a tremendous help if fuel prices went back to $1.50-$2/gal for gas and diesel. It would mean that transportation costs would decline, which leads to a decline in food costs due to farm equipment fuel and food transportation costs. It also leads to decline in costs of other commodities and goods that have to be transported. I spend $300/mo on gasoline...if gas was $2/gallon I'd spend $160... So, it'd benefit the economy...but it wouldnt solve the wall street mess.
