What does CHIQUITA TENANGO mean? It is carved on the blade of a small knife I was given in the 1940's.?
It has a good blade and was "used" when I got it. The heavy leather scabbard is meant to fasten on a belt. The handle of the knife is a Mexican/Indian man with a feather headress
he is carved from black and pinkish stone. The uncle who gave this to me is long dead, but he and his family lived in the Panama Canal Zone, and traveled around in South America, so I don't even know the country of origin. His son once had to kill an alligator and we always thought this was the knife, but common sense tells me it's too small.....only about a 6 inch blade.
A semi-educated guess: Chiquita means small, guessing Tenango means knife...
