I had to look up what you meant by Neolithic Revolution, I'd never heard it described that way before. The introduction of fixed agriculture was the basis for civilization. As a general rule hunting and gathering doesn't provide a secure source of food for a community. Over an extended period of time, H&G usually inhibits the growth of the tribe.

The domestication of animals and the introduction of agriculture allowed people to make plans for their future. In fact, agriculture REQUIRED them to plan ahead. A new idea to a H&G people. In order to plan for planting and harvesting, the people needed to have some type of calendar.

In Egypt, the flooding of the Nile provided a type of calendar. After the waters recede, you plant your grain, when the grain is ripe, you harvest. After years of noting the cycle of the waters, they noticed that the same stars were in the sky when the flooding started.

Watching the sky required a special class of people who did not work in the fields so that they could be awake at night to observe the stars. And agriculture produced enough food so that this was possible.

This separation of workers from specialists is the first step towards civilization.

I used Egypt as an example, it wasn't the first place where civilization developed, just an easy one to use.
