How does a Navy battle ship schedule officers' duty shifts?
In movies, it seems like the captain and executive officer are always on duty 24-7. How do large navy ships such as carriers and battleships typically schedule shifts for the top commanding officers?
first off, there aren't any more battleships in service, at least for the USN.
Anyway, there are these things called duty sections, and one duty section relieves another one. How often you have duty depends on how many duty sections you have.
