I have a 1968 s double die lincoln penny. The date and mint mark are doubled. How rare is this coin?
I have no listing for it in the Red Book so as of 2007 it was not a recognized doubled die, the 1969-S is listed. There is a thing called machine doubling where the die hits the coin more than once, but not the whole coin and is usually around the date area. You would need to have photo's or scans of it. If you do or can, you can send them to Ken Potter a leading errors specialist. ken@koinpro.com. Don't bother is you can't send a photo with it. If that is the case see a couple of coin dealers in your area or some coin club members who can look at it. Best I can do at this time.
