Period Military

Should every able-bodied citizen be required to serve for a certain period of branch of the military service?

why or why not?

There are two schools of thoughts on this. One is that most "old timers" that fought in WWII and Korea still have that unwavering patriotism attitude and feel that there should be a draft and that if physically and mentally able to server should do so.
The other is since Volar (Volunteer Army) finally got over its growing pains and became stabilized, the Military has become more professional, and most active duty service members feel that they have no trust in a person that does not want to be there.
I am one of the "Old timers" a late baby boomer if you will. I am also a realist and know that thanks to the actions of some members of our government, has left a bad taste in the mouths of our current military aged people. Patriotism is not dead, but is not as it used to be. We, as citizens have become wary of the actions of the government, are are slow to become involved.
I feel that the military is not for everyone, but that still does not free them up from the responsibility of serving our country at one level or another. Whether it is in the local community, or a national level. There are so many programs available that are always needing volunteers. There is so much self satisfaction in serving something bigger than ones own little world.
