How do I prepare Chinese Silk pictures to look smooth and flat before getting them framed ?
I have two books on Oriental embroidery. Both of them recommend stretching the embroidery on a wooden frame - you can get the stretcher frames at a hobby store, the same as you'd use to stretch a canvas. After stretching, gently steam the reverse side of the embroidery with steam from a kettle (the kind that whistles makes a good directed jet of steam) or a garment steamer. Steaming helps to relax the stitchery, and even out any slight puckers.
