how has confucianism changed from its orgin in the zhou period to the song dynasty in china?

Confucian teaching remained important during the whole history of China, but its position in society was changing, and so was the teaching itself. The historic period of Eastern Zhou was a time of constant change, a time of ever-changing power relationships. It was a time which gave rise to the so called hundred schools of Chinese philosophy (baijia). Master Kong, Confucius, was the mythical founder of the most prominent school which was about to gain primacy among competing thoughts.
New competing doctrines, Taoism and Buddhism, rose, addressing new needs which came along with social and economic development. In order to keep its position, Confucianism had to react to these challenges, accommodating changes in society and economy.
