Why do Jehovah's Witnesses twist things around in the Bible so it comes out that they are always right?

Some Jehovah's Witnesses came around yesterday. When I mentioned that I had read the Bible several times, one decided to challenge my knowledge. He asked, "Who was the first Gentile baptized into Christianity?" I replied "The Ethiopian charioteer that Philip baptized." The JW looked stunned for a moment, then said "Good guess, but it was Cornelius, the Roman centurion." I indicated that he had a Bible with him and to look it up in Acts Chapter 8 (Ethiopian baptism) and Acts Chapter 10 (centurion baptism). The JW replied that just because the story of the charioteer came first in the Bible didn't mean that it necessarily happened first as many parts of the Bible are not in chronological order. It seemed that he went out of his way to stretch a point so he could be the correct one? Why do they always do that? No matter what - they have to be right!

Their so-called prophets (Charles Russell) wrote his own version of the Bible to fit his own teachings, called the 'New World Translation'.
They esp. made an attack on the Deity of Christ Jesus. For example, if you look in "their" version and compare John 1:1 - you will notice that they made a major change- their version says "the Word was 'a' god", instead of "The Word was God". (Note: they call Jesus a little god).
They also say that Jesus was the archangel Michael come down from heaven and became Jesus & that when He was crucified Jehovah destroyed that body & made another body, of which, Michael used to return to heaven. However, the Bible clearly says that God never called any angel His Only Begotten Son, Hebrews 1:5, which says, Let ALL the angels worship His Son (Jesus), Heb.1:6. And,as you know, none of the apostles ever refered to Jesus as Michael (before or after His resurrection).
And JWs do many things like that: Therefore, their Jesus is not the Jesus that the Holy Scriptures teach, compare: Galatians 1:6-8 !

Being wrong do to ignorance is one thing but those who deliberately add & take from the scriptures to suit their own (false) teachings is another.
Isaiah said if they don't speak according to the word, they have no light of dawn, Isa.8:20.

Jesus said that false prophets would arise to deceive the very elect if that were possible, Matt.24:24.

Edit: None of the Jehovah Witnesses confess to be going to heaven. Ask one, they are taught that only 144,ooo will go & they even misuse these verses in Rev.7;4, which are clearly talking about Jews (the 12 tribes of Jacob/Israel-not Jehovah Witness gentiles, etc)
And the "other sheep" (who they will tell you that they hope to be one) is mentioned by Jesus in John 10:16 & is referring to Gentiles who He also came to save, in that, He was clearly talking to Jews in this passage.

Also worth noting: Greek scholar translators that have investagated, say the New World Translation is the worse translation that they have ever came came across and has been changed to fit the teachings of the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society which produces it.
