I have a newspaper from the boston globe from when the titanic sank?
the first front page says ALL DROWNED BUT 868 date April 16 1912 evening edition and the other one says TITANIC SINKS, 1500 DIE date April 16 1912 and I was wondering how I can tell if it is a reprint or if it is an original one. I have had it for over 20 years and I don't know how to get a hold of the person who gave it to me to find out.
First, that particular issue has been widely reprinted over the years.
Secondly, there is a way in which a person can tell if it is real. In the days when the Titanic sank, newspapers were printed by 'hot type' -- i.e., type was pressed into the paper. You would be able to see letters from the type pushed through the paper and feel it on the other side of the page.
Modern-day reproductions don't have that; the ink easily smudges. If you look closely, the page looks like a photograph of the original page.
